Crowds loved Tashi Shoelpa Good Luck Dance at Kalachakra Festival

This dance is performed on very auspicious occassion before holy lamas. Tashi Shoelpa is the oldest Opera Company in Tibet. Lhamo conveys the teachings of lord Buddha through historical re-enactment . This dance originally appeared in a dream to the Great Fifth Dalai Lama in 1645. The performer wearing the white bearded mask represent saint Thangthong Gyalpo, the founder of Lhamo (Opera) who lived for 140 years .He (masked performer) represents the teacher and the other performers as his pupils.

As we watch the performers dancing with flexiblity to the rhythem of the drum, we also have the opportunity to see the teacher giving an impotant information and the taught agreeing with him. The performance of this dance is believed to bring Good Luck.
